The first weekend of April 2022 was absolutely spectacular all across the land of Dallas Ft. Worth. With sun everywhere and temps in the low 80s, I kept looking around for a Caribbean beach to walk to it was so stunning and fun. And one thing I’ve been talking about in various Instagram posts and web articles is that a community of successful, thriving brothas and sistas is emerging in the far northern Dallas suburbs of Plano, Frisco, The Colony, McKinney, Prosper and nearby cities that can no longer be denied. If you’ve been following our Instagram posts and events page especially, you will see that the buying power of our people is being catered to not only by others, but by our own as well.
From Friday to Sunday, I was out and about networking and socializing. A few of you come up to say hi, which is cool. If you see me, say something because I know many of you are sometimes by yourselves and just want an excuse to get out and network. That’s what these events and my website are all about. We want brothas and sistas who are new in town to feel welcome and know where upscale knee-grows hang out at.
So on Friday, I was at Ra Sushi in Shops at Legacy Plano, which is kinda my pregame spot where I check messages as I get ramped up for the weekend. And yes, there are some of us who do sushi and drink sakes. My next stop is PepperSmash on the other side of Shops at Legacy where DJ AandT does a great job with his R&B Chill mix that turns up as the night progresses. April 1st was quite fun in the sun.
Saturday April 2nd I had planned to do the popular Hip Hop brunch at Common Table in The Star in Frisco by the Cowboys headquarters, but it was so packed because the morning sun was perfect that the waiting list was over an hour long. I bravely put my name on the list to get a callback, and because I didn’t expect to get a text, I went to the tasty and nice brunch at Tupelo Honey right nearby, which also appeals to a lot of our people. It’s not as turned up, but still a nice vibe. As soon as my order came, I got a text from Common Table lol. Doggonit why does that happen. I later found out how popular the hip hop brunch is: The reservation list is two weeks long! I got a reservation for Sat April 23 – yeah, that’s how tight it is. It attracts a lot of professional brothas and sistas so I recommend you head to Google Maps and look them up to reserve a spot. Or you can take a chance and walk up and get on the list: maybe they will text you in 10 mins like they did to me.
Later that night, the temps were perfect for the new DFW Upscale weekly event at City Works right back in The Star in Frisco, around the corner from the hip hop brunch spot. That perfect Spring night, on the 2nd level overlooking the Cowboys practice field and Concrete Cowboy (another hot spot for the nice hip hop vibe with a mixed crowd) could not be beat. Nice vibe there. My last stop was my fave Kai fusion Japanese spot in Legacy West Plano, where I know everybody and mix it up with some business people and executives, including high achieving brothas and sistas. Their resident DJ was in the mix as well. Well known DFW DJ TDK was in the mix April 3rd with his Biggie vs Tupac old school hip hop and R&B theme. Again, the sun was absolutely immaculate.
As if that weren’t enough, the Neo Soul crowd does it big a Lava Cantina in The Colony every Sunday afternoon and evening. They sometimes bring out some well known old school hip hop and R&B artists so you want to follow them on Eventbrite. Another group has been doing a Sunday KISS day party at Shark Club in the very nice Sandman Hotel in Plano bordering on Frisco. Yet I hung out at Daqs All Folks at 121 and Preston in Plano as they are also doing it big in their cozy spot. And of course, my buddies at LCUPN have a very nice monthly mixer among the jet set crowd mostly throughout Plano, Frisco, and surrounding areas.
These aren’t the only places catering to us out this way. Our demographics are making an impact, which is why it’s important for us to network and build on this momentum. Not only just here in Collin County, which is one of the wealthiest in the nation, but also our other segments across the great vast land of Dallas Ft. Worth.
And I know this area is not alone in DFW with so many brothas and sistas moving here from the west and east coasts. The area around the Cowboys stadium in Arlington has an enclave of us doing big things. Of course, downtown Dallas and the nearby Deep Ellum and Uptown areas has a burgeoning crowd of us holding it down. Irving/Las Colinas, especially around the Toyota Music Center and Michael’s event spot (they have an Ultimate Upscale DAY Mixer coming up April 23, 2022), have been making noise. DeSoto in the southern Dallas sector is 7th Street in Ft. Worth is one of my favorites (yes, Funky Town, we do make it out that way, and if a big Spring event is coming up, have us come out) and if you’re out that way, you should definitely check it out as it is quite charming and fun out that way.
Finally, we have a new Patreon page where, starting this Spring, I will be interviewing successful brothas and sistas who are doing big things with their businesses and professional careers. This approach will help facilitate better networking among all of us across the metroplex, so be sure to subscribe and support. Once again, something special is bubbling up in DFW that we need to appreciate and capitalize on. Until the next video, git up, git out there and enjoy life while you’re still breathing, my friends.
