Dallas’ political empire of Dwaine and Barbara Caraway not quitting despite primary defeats | Dallas Morning News

It’s been a few days since Dwaine Caraway

lost badly in the Democratic primary to Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. His wife, Barbara Mallory Caraway, was also trounced — for the third time — by U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson.

For some politicians, such defeats would signal it’s time for a career change. But that’s not an option for the Caraways.

“Did you just hear that man holler out?” asks Dwaine, 63. “He didn’t holler out like I was a loser. He hollered out with the voice of hope.”
