AffluentBlacksOfDallas.com is a social media property of Samsona Corporation, a Dallas-based technology company located in Plano, TX which was incorporated in 1996 as the internet was still a novelty for most. Why Such a Site?
Some might ask if a site like this is really necessary given that blacks have made great gains in civil rights, jobs and other notable areas of society, not only in the Dallas area, but across the country. While to some extent that might very well be true and is a step in the right direction, there is still a gap between what mainstream audiences know about advancements we’ve made and the reality of the ugly side of racism in many segments of society that African Americans uniquely experience. The media in particular portrays one image of American society that is considered normal to whites, which has led many to feel comfortable with where society is in terms of race relations. And for the record, it has greatly improved compared to where things were, say, 60 years ago.

But nevertheless, while whites are comfortable seeing white faces on prime time television and call that the norm, and are comfortable with white faces and white mannequins at clothing stores, and are comfortable with upward mobility in mostly white major corporations because that is the norm, those norms do not quite work for African Americans and other minorities with the same level of efficiency. Sometimes one could fairly argue it’s our own inability to seize opportunities, but often it is through invisible efforts through no fault of our own that pass up equally qualified blacks for white peers. Consistent incidences such as these naturally compels us and other minorities to aggregate and collectively come up with strategies to cope and overcome these obstacles thrown our way that we didn’t ask for. Just like when Russians travel here and find local content to not be conducive to the unique needs of Russians, thus requiring them to acquire Russian-friendly content, we also need black-friendly content to help us feel more included in Dallas and American society.

With that being said, sites like this one are not meant to be offensive or exclusive of non-blacks, but instead are inclusive of blacks into mainstream society. This site has the unique mission of helping to bridge the gap between the reality of the black professional experience in Dallas and the perceptions of inclusion among non-black Dallasites. Those who happen to not be African American are certainly welcome to get a glimpse into the pulse of the affluent Dallas black experience and even network with charismatic leaders and aspiring leaders in our community.
